If you cast your mind back to Stabs and Huaraches, the female versions matched their manly counterparts, and these follow that golden era moment of footwear political correctness that treated women as footwear equals. Back when white/grey/concord/pink hit the shelves around spring 1990, it was the sibling of that much-loved red and if you saw the much-discussed Complex top 50 air max 2009 last month you may have noted that after much soul searching, we placed it second in the all-time great stakes. This makeup is hard. Just a straight-up classic from a time when even a feminine accent colour still appealed to the males. Nike were just on fire when these launched. Of course, shades of pink have dulled and materials have been tweaked, but the essence remains. It’s been an alright year if you were in the market for the Nike air max 2011 in some staple colours without the usual fuss. We’ve had Infrareds, but now it’s time for a women’s colourway to make a return too.Concord Blue has been the basis of a few classics over the years, but this one made it its own.
The new emphasis on running is set to create some equally desirable women-only Lunar colours, but for too long now, the ladies got some bland shoes, insultingly slimmed down. The world is ready for another take on the eggplant/pink/greys…or Coral Roses…whatever you want to call them at retro level too. Last time these dropped, many missed out, but they’re back with very little nonsense and they’re in the Crooked store right now, going up to the equivalent of a men’s UK 9.5. If you go above that, sorry bigfoot. And to think that once upon a time we took this kind of thing for granted
